Claim (Personal Injury Claim)

A formal request for payment made to an insurance company or at-fault party, based on injuries or losses you suffered.

In a personal injury case:
You may file a claim with:

  • The at-fault driver’s auto insurance,

  • Your own policy (for MedPay, UM/UIM, etc.), or

  • Another liability policy, such as a property owner’s insurance.

What to know:

  • A claim is not the same as a lawsuit. Many cases settle at the claim stage.

  • Keep copies of all bills, records, and correspondence related to your claim.
