Guardian

An adult appointed to manage a minor’s settlement money or to sign legal documents on their behalf, sometimes separate from a guardian ad litem.

Courts often require a guardian and court approval before a child’s settlement is finalized.

What to know:

  • Money may be placed in a restricted account or structured settlement until the child turns 18 (or older).
