  • Insured: The person or entity covered by an insurance policy.

  • Insurer: The insurance company issuing the policy.

In a personal injury case:
You may be the insured under your own policy (for UM/UIM, MedPay), and the at-fault party is the insured under their liability policy.

What to know:

  • Policies are contracts; their language often controls what is covered.

  • Ask for declarations pages to understand available coverages and limits.
