Judgment

The final decision of a court resolving a lawsuit, including the amount of money awarded, if any.

In a personal injury case:
A judgment can result from a trial or sometimes from a default if the other side fails to respond.

What to know:

  • Winning a judgment is one step; collecting it from the defendant or their insurer is another.

  • Judgments can sometimes be appealed or modified.
